On April 19, 2025, the first-ever MENASA Summit convened at the United Way of Greater Houston, bringing together global leaders, physicians, researchers, and advocates with a shared mission: to advance health equity by increasing representation of Middle Eastern, North African, South Asian Americans (MENASA), and other non-traditional people of color in clinical research.
The summit was a milestone in bridging the inclusion gap that persists in clinical trials, which remain disproportionately representative of certain populations. With a focus on awareness, training, and advocacy, the one-day event featured keynote speeches, interactive workshops, and expert-led sessions aimed at building strategies to promote diversity in medical research.
Summit highlights included:
The summit’s ultimate goal was clear: to lay the groundwork for a future where clinical trials truly reflect the diversity of the populations they aim to serve.
"This summit was more than an event—it was a movement. One that brought together voices from across the MENASA region and beyond to advance equity, opportunity, and representation in clinical trials and research"
Thank you very much, Dr. Hadi Dinnawi, along with the leadership and organizing team, for your outstanding efforts in putting together such an insightful event. It was a great pleasure meeting everyone, and I look forward to future collaborations and continued conversations around the initiatives driving equity in clinical research and global health.
"Together, we envision a future where clinical research reflects the diversity of the populations it serves. The MENASA Summit fosters this by increasing awareness, supporting training opportunities, and creating actionable strategies to elevate representation"
"The energy and passion in the room was incredible from the professionals and advocates all united by a common goal: making clinical research more inclusive and equitable"
“The panel of speakers was excellent and truly conveyed the clinical research community's commitment to improving the patient experience, maintaining strict compliance amidst a changing regulatory landscape, and ensuring that exploratory medical treatments are safe and effective for all demographics."
"This summit was a refreshing reminder of the impact we can make when we come together to share knowledge and drive progress in research"
